PURE WATER LAWSUIT
In May of 2018, with the support of UCCA and funding by residents, UCCF filed a CEQA lawsuit challenging the Pure Water Environmental Impact Report (EIR). UCCF alleged that, among other things, not all routes for the highly pressurized raw sewage pipeline were fully evaluated. Residents and community leaders objected to the pipeline running through the heart of Clairemont and University City. The lawsuit did not address the safety or methods of the pure water project.
Details of the Pure Water system, the EIR and construction plans can be found on the City’s website. Working groups have been established for University City, as well as Clairemont, Bay Ho and Scripps Ranch to address the concerns of residents. Working Group meetings for UC were held on the dates shown below and minutes of those meetings are available from the City.
After nearly two years of negotiations, UCCF reached a settlement with the City of San Diego Public Utilities (water dept). The terms were approved in closed session of City Councilmembers in February 2020. We are waiting for the City to sign the settlement agreement.
